Wonderland – Imaginative Cuisine onboard Wonder of the Seas

There are meals you enjoy, meals you remember, and then there are meals that leave you wondering whether you just wandered into a dream.

During our recent cruise aboard Wonder of the Seas, Mr. FamTrav and I decided to reserve a table at Wonderland. We had heard it was unlike any restaurant at sea, but nothing could have prepared us for what happened when we walked through the door.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be an ordinary dining experience. The first clue was the menu.

Instead of simply opening a menu and choosing an appetizer, our journey began with a paintbrush. We dipped the brush into water and swept it across what appeared to be a blank page. Like magic, the menu revealed itself before our eyes. We couldn’t help but laugh and glance at each other. We were already entertained, and we hadn’t tasted a single bite.

Wonderland isn’t built around traditional courses. Instead, dishes are organized around five natural elements: Earth, Sea, Fire, Ice, and Sun. Each section offers its own personality, flavors, and surprises.

As we explored the menu, it quickly became obvious that this restaurant is designed to push the boundaries of what food can be. Every dish seemed part culinary masterpiece and part work of art.

One of the first creations to arrive at our table was a reconstructed caprese, followed by tomato water. It looked almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.

Then came imaginative presentations that challenged every expectation. Short ribs arrived accompanied by liquified truffle mushroom risotto, transforming a familiar dish into something completely unexpected. Throughout the evening, we found ourselves asking the same question over and over: “How did they do that?”

The menu continued to surprise us with options from every element. Fire featured bold flavors like a bird’s nest, and Mad Hatter’s Roasted Shrimp. Ice offered refreshing selections such as tuna sashimi and bright citrus creations enhanced with yuzu granita. Earth and Sea showcased richer dishes, including liquid lobster with bone marrow and caviar, branzino with tamarind spice emulsion, and Berkshire pork belly paired with apples and cracklin.

What impressed us most wasn’t just the creativity. The food actually delivered on flavor. Sometimes restaurants focus so much on presentation that the taste becomes secondary. Wonderland manages to do both. Every plate felt thoughtfully crafted, balancing visual drama with delicious execution.

Of course, the cocktails deserve their own standing ovation. Described as “magical elixirs,” they were designed to engage more than just taste. Each drink incorporated elements of theater and surprise, creating a full sensory experience that perfectly matched the spirit of the restaurant. Watching beverages arrive at neighboring tables became entertainment in itself.

As the evening continued, we realized that Wonderland isn’t really about choosing the best dish on the menu. It’s about embracing curiosity. It’s about letting go of expectations and allowing yourself to be surprised.

By the time dessert arrived, we were completely immersed in the experience. The dreamy sweet creations were every bit as imaginative as the courses before them, providing the perfect ending to a meal that felt more like a theatrical performance than a dinner reservation.

We left the restaurant smiling, talking about our favorite moments, and trying to decide which dish had impressed us the most.

The truth is, Wonderland isn’t a place you visit simply because you’re hungry. It’s a place you visit because you want to experience something unforgettable. And on a ship already filled with incredible attractions, our evening at Wonderland became one of the highlights of our entire cruise.
