Long Weekend in Key West {Where to Stay}

The DH and I were finally able to take our 2020 vacation to Key West, FL. It’s bizarre how much the island reminded me of home (Nassau), even down to the 90 degree temps in July! We had a marvelous time, and as usual, I plan to recap all of the highlights.

We stayed at Parrot Key Hotel & Villas, a Condé Nast Traveler Top Resort in Key West. The resort is located on the Gulf of Mexico, and while it does not have a beach, it has amazing waterfront views.

The nighttime views are equally spectacular.

We loved our spacious Waterfront King Guest Room, which boasts a private entrance in the front, and terrace in the back. The clever U-shaped design of the resort means most rooms are mere steps from the pools, watersports area, and dining.

There are four pools in a row starting with Grove, Gallery, and Oasis, all of which are family-friendly. Then Sanctuary, the adult-only pool, follows. I love this concept of separate pool areas! We’d found Grove and Sanctuary to be the most popular, with Gallery and Oasis in the middle offering a private escape. We had one to ourselves for hours, which was divine.

The grounds are lush, tropical, and very well maintained. As you can see in the photos above, for a large part of the day the pools are shaded by majestic palms and bamboo.

There is one restaurant, The Grove Kitchen & Bar, on property. It is open air and located right next to the Grove pool. Hours are 8:00 am – 10:00 pm and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is available for in-room dining. We enjoyed breakfast here one morning. Our server didn’t even break character when I ordered an omelette without the eggs. Ha!

The resort facilitates bike rentals, along with jet skis, and non-motorized water sports.

Complimentary shuttle service is offered to downtown Key West and Smathers Beach. We didn’t use this simply because we didn’t want to be beholden to a schedule. But this is a nice feature to have as parking in Key West is insane!

I could go on and on about the excellent customer service at check-in/check-out, valet parking, dining, and concierge services. Whenever we needed anything – including being let into our room after inadvertently locking ourselves out – help was a text message away. The entire staff was extremely warm and welcoming our entire visit.

More to come…
