In April, the DH accepted his dream job which resulted in us trading in the Heart of Dixie for the Volunteer State. We’ve visited a number of times in the past, so I thought now would be a great time for a Tennessee Road Trip recap.
Chattanooga
In July 2014, we visited Chattanooga. We did the trifecta of attractions: Ruby Falls, Incline Railway, and Rock City, the kids rode an 1894 Dentzel carousel in Coolidge Park, and we were all wowed by the views from the Walnut Street Bridge.
Memphis
In July 2016, we headed to Memphis. First, we partied on Beale Street. Then, we enjoyed lunch on the top of a pyramid, had a somber moment at the National Civil Rights Musuem at the Lorraine Motel, visited the Rock and Soul Museum, and watched ducks march through a hotel. We ended the trip with a full day at Graceland.
The Great Smoky Mountains and Chattanooga
In July 2017 we headed to Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg.

Nashville
Wait for it… in July 2018 (picking up on a pattern here?), we hightailed it to Music City. The Wildhorse Saloon was everything I imagined. The DH even line danced with me! Next we visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, Historic RCA Studios B, and took in a show at the Grand Ole Opry. Then we explored The Gulch, which is where I said we’ve live if we ever moved to Nashville. Spoiler alert: we do not live in the Gulch. We ended the trip with a visit to the Adventure Science Center and Nashville Parthenon.
Chattanooga
In November 2019 (were you expecting a different month?!), we headed back to Chattanooga for a repeat of our 2014 trip with two major exceptions. We went in the fall, and with my Dad. I even included a review of our excellent dining experience at State of Confusion. We also ventured out to the South Side neighborhood which is super cute! I would add this is the neighborhood we’d live in if we ever moved to Chattanooga, but something tells me that probably won’t work out like I imagined. 😉
Obviously we love Tennessee. It will be fun to explore our new home, and document all of our adventures here.
