We traded in Walt Disney World for Nassau, Bahamas to round out our Spring Break vacation. And I finally got to visit this hidden gem in Nassau that’s within walking distance of the cruise port.
John Watling’s Distillery, part of the Buena Vista Estate on Delancy St. is a unique experience that combines history and craftsmanship. This distillery, located in a historic 1789 estate, offers complimentary guided tours where visitors can learn about the history of The Bahamas, the home, and the art of rum-making.

A host often walks by handing out the most delicious samples. There is a tasting counter, and of course lots of locally produced rum for sale. After trying the pina colada, I had to buy a bottle of the Amber Rum to try and recreate the recipe at home.

PIÑA COLADA
Ramón Marrero first mixed the Piña Colada in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1954. We craft The Bahamas’ Piña Colada with JOHN WATLING’S Amber rum, Coconut rum, Coconut milk & Pineapple juice.
There is also an onsite restaurant with patio seating so you can compliment your tasting with even more delicious Bahamian food. Highly recommend!
Getting there from the cruise port is an easy 20-minute walk, and you’ll see lots of tourists headed that way.
- Head west toward Woodes Rodgers Walk
- Turn left toward Woodes Rodgers Walk
- Woodes Rodgers Walk turns left and becomes Navy Lion Road
- Continue onto Marlborough St.
- Turn left onto West St.
- Turn left onto West St.
- Destination will be on the left

Any common-sense practices you use at home, I expect you to use in a foreign country.
While in the area, be sure to check out the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, and the new Junkanoo Museum of The Bahamas to round out your visit.
