Fall in Love with Mexico All Over Again… in Puerto Vallarta

If you’ve only seen Mexico’s Caribbean side, you’re missing half the story. I recently returned from an immersive travel-agent training in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, and Punta de Mita, and let me tell you, this region is a different kind of beautiful than the Mexican Caribbean.

Picture this: emerald mountains rushing straight into the Pacific, golden sunsets that look hand-painted, and charming cobblestone streets begging you to wander. It’s dramatic in the best way. And of course there’s tequila!

You know the street food is excellent when the line wraps around the building!

But the real magic? The vibe. Puerto Vallarta has a soulful, lived-in warmth that feels instantly welcoming. Boutique resorts tucked into jungle hillsides. Oceanfront dining where every meal comes with a front-row seat to the sunset. Art galleries, local markets, and neighborhoods where culture isn’t curated, it’s simply part of daily life.

For the first half of our stay, we were were based at the luxurious Conrad Punta de Mita in Riviera Nayarit. This family-friendly property boasts a beautiful beach, three outdoor pools, a gorgeous spa, and a Mexican temazcal. For those not in the know, a temazcal is a dome-shaped structure where the ancient ritual steam bath ceremony is performed by a shaman for physical and spiritual cleansing.

We each had an Ocean Front King Casita. Each night the sound of the waves crashing lulled me into a peaceful sleep.

On our first night, a shaman hosted a sunset ceremony for us. We were given amaranth seeds which represent everything we’re thankful for, to release into the Pacific Ocean. It was beautiful.

Easily one of the best meals of the trip was at Codex, the signature dining option on property. It is recognized as one of the 250 best restaurants in Mexico, and meals incorporate the heritage and diversity of Mexico.

It was simply fascinating the way the property incorporates Mexican heritage into the activities and even the design. The Eye of God could be seen in a number of elements from wall hangings and rooftops, to a floor compass in the lobby lying under a recreation of the story of the San Andreas mountain range which meticulously lines up with a water feature in the middle of the grounds, and the ocean beyond.

The itinerary was a very full one, with site inspections of a number of resorts in the region. Many focused on the ultimate in luxury – think One&Only Mandarina and Four Seasons – while others had a more accessible price point. But it wasn’t all work. One of the fun things we got to do was a sunset catamaran cruise. Here the ladies are showcasing their football team sign. 🤷🏽‍♀️

We happened to be visiting during Day of the Dead festivities, and when we strolled the Malecon, got to see the larger than life Catrinas and Catrins. Listen, this is my second time visiting Mexico during Day of the Dead, and it is so much fun! Highly recommended!!

On our city tour, we got to explore the downtown area. It oozes European charm. We visited the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, saw Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor’s houses connected by a bridge, and wrapped with shopping in the markets.

For the second half of our stay, we were based at Casa Velas, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort minutes from the airport. This property oozes romance and serenity. Located on the golf course, it has beach access and marina access. I know my golfers and boaters will adore this property!

We each stayed in a Grand Class Plus Villa. It is so spacious!

After checking out of Conrad Punta de Mita, I checked in to Casa Velas. This traditionally Mexican, adults-only property is super charming. Located on a golf course, steps from the beach, and minutes from the airport, this would make for a perfect long weekend getaway. The resort hosted a few fun activities for us including private tequila tasting in the garden, and a private dinner at the Beach Club. And these are just some of the activities I can pre-book for your group.

Overall, this was a lovely experience on Mexico’s Pacific Coast!

Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a family getaway, or a group adventure, let’s chat about the Mexican Riviera. I mean, quiet beaches, surf towns, and culture… what more could you want?! And if you visit between November and March, you might even spot humpback whales breaching offshore. It doesn’t get more “wow” than that!

And here’s where I come in: when you book with me, I match you with the resort that fits you; from luxury adults-only hideaways to lively, family-friendly favorites. I streamline every detail so your only job is to arrive and enjoy those golden horizons.

Come on, you know you want to.
