The FamTrav Grammy and I just returned from an incredible industry preview sailing of Royal Caribbean’s brand new Star of the Seas. This iconic megaship combines everything travelers love about cruising: bold design, endless activities, and world-class dining, all wrapped up in an experience that feels both exciting and effortless. Let me walk you through some of the highlights that made this ship unforgettable.
Distinct Neighborhoods
I love Royal’s neighborhood concept, each with its own personality. For example, stroll through the lush, open-air Central Park, where the greenery makes you forget you’re at sea. Head to the Royal Promenade, buzzing with shops, bars, and live entertainment that make it feel like a city street. It’s here you’ll find Pearl – a kinetic art installation – perfect for Instagrammable photos. Surfside is tailored for families, with splash areas, kid-friendly dining, and a lively energy. Thrill Island is an exciting water park at sea. And there are so many more! Every neighborhood offers its own vibe, so no matter your mood, there’s a place onboard that feels just right.

Stylish and Comfortable Cabins
The cabins on Star of the Seas feel fresh and thoughtfully designed. Whether you’re looking at an Interior stateroom with clever storage solutions, an Ocean View Balcony for panoramic ocean views, a Central Park Balcony to be close to the action, or one of the spectacular suites with private perks, there’s a style for every traveler.
We stayed in an Ocean View Balcony cabin. Below you’ll see it pictured staged as a King, and Two Twins.

I had the opportunity to tour each cabin type, and must say the Ultimate Family Townhouse stole my heart! Can’t you just imagine being 7 years old staying in this wonderland with your siblings, parents, and grandparents all under one roof?!
The Ultimate Family Townhouse boasts three levels of unbelievable amenities, like an in-suite slide, wrap-around terrace with hot tub, and direct access to Surfside right from a private patio. It sleeps 8 and has 3 full baths. There’s just one of these onboard, so if you’re interested, this is something you’ll want to book well in advance!
Show Stopping Entertainment
Royal Caribbean is known for its entertainment, and Star of the Seas raises the bar. From ice skating spectaculars and high-energy Broadway-style productions in the main theater to jaw-dropping aqua shows at the AquaTheater, the performances are nonstop thrills. Even in the evenings, live music fills the ship, so you can always find a soundtrack for your night.
Here are the three shows that were available on our sailing.

Dining That Delights Every Palate
Dining is one of our favorite parts of a cruise, and this ship spoiled us with choices. The main dining room serves elegant meals with attentive service, while casual spots like the AquaDome Market (food hall) offer international flavors in a relaxed setting. Specialty restaurants take it up a notch: think mouthwatering steaks, fresh sushi, and inventive global cuisine. Be sure to check out Lincoln Park Supper Club ($) which brings the glitz and glamor of a Chicago soiree, featuring multi-course meals, live jazz, and cocktails inspired by Chicago’s dining legacy.

Youth Clubs
Adventure Ocean provide fun, interactive, and immersive spaces for your little ones and pre-teens. For their enjoyment and safety, children are divided up into the following age groups:
- Babies and Tots ($)
- Aquanauts (3 to 5 years old)
- Explorers (6 to 8 years old)
- Voyagers (9 to 12 years old)
There is also a pretty sweet Teen Club for children 13-17. In my experience this does not stay as busy as Adventure Ocean, but it is sill a fun option to have, particularly when traveling with a group.

Adults Only Spaces
Royal Caribbean is known for great family fun, but they also cater to adults with child-free spaces to unwind. Just head to Swim and Tonic, or the Hideaway pool with infinity edge for all the libations, with none of the distractions.

Adults only activities include Adult Comedy, ReZolution Projection Party, and Red – A Nightclub Experience. Check your Cruise Compass for dates and times.
Sailor
Just like sister ship Icon of the Seas with Rover, Star of the Seas has its very own canine Brand Ambassador named Sailor. She is the sweetest Golden Retriever pup! Who knew dogs on ships bring so much joy?!

Sailor makes surprise appearances around the ship. But the best way to spot her is to wait by her potty station near the Fitness Center.
Why You’ll Want to Be on Board
My preview of the Star of the Seas confirmed that this ship isn’t just a vacation, it’s an experience. Whether you’re sailing with family, friends, or as a couple, you’ll find the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and luxury. I’ve seen firsthand how much thought went into every detail, and I can confidently say this is a ship you’ll want to experience for yourself.
