Day 10 of our Northern European cruise brought us to Zeebrugge, Belgium – and just like that, we’re nearing the end of this incredible journey. Most travelers head to Bruges from this port, a stunning medieval town known for its dreamy canals and Michelangelo’s Madonna of Bruges at the Church of Our Lady. We’ve done that before (a few times, actually Mr. FamTrav is Belgian!). So this time, we opted for something more personal: a day trip to Gent to reconnect with his side of the family. A special kind of port day.

The next morning, we said goodbye to the ship in Southampton and hopped a train to London for one last day of sightseeing.
Fun fact: I studied in London and know the city rather well.
We’ve explored the city as a family before, so this visit was all about soaking up the vibes: easy strolls, iconic sights, and the kind of summer day that you wish didn’t have to end. Naturally dinner called for good ole fish and chips. I mean, when in London…

The best way to get around the city is by tube. It’s fast, inexpensive, and easy to navigate. But in the summer, cars can get very warm!

Back at the hotel, we were exhausted, but content. Our Northern European adventure was complete.
As a family, we love cruising. Port-heavy itineraries like this one let us explore multiple countries in one trip, and for a family of four, it is a great value. We tend to include a pre and post-stay which adds to the immersive experience.
