The Royal Hawaiian

After a magnificent few days in Maui, we headed to O’ahu, and checked into The Royal Hawaiian. Nicknamed the Pink Palace of the Pacific, this iconic property on Waikiki Beach has been a symbol of Hawaiian hospitality since 1927. It has been a treasured vacation spot for international royalty, and a retreat for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. So what’s it like staying here? I thought you’d never ask!

From the moment you enter the lush grounds, you’re greeted by the signature pink exterior and swaying palm trees. The hotel’s vintage charm, accented with contemporary touches, sets the tone for a stay that’s both nostalgic and luxurious.

It’s ocean front location with stunning views of, and proximity to Diamond Head are unbeatable. And it’s one of the few properties which sit directly on Waikiki Beach and offer reserved beach seating.

For this stay I was in an Ocean Front room in the updated Mailani Tower. This tower offers rooms with views of Waikiki’s ever changing sky and sea.

No stay would be complete without a signature pink robe. Rumor has it these are going to be redesigned soon. Shhh!

Every morning started on the private balcony watching the surfers gather. There always seemed to be more chatting than surfing. 🙂

There is an historic wing which maintains as many original features as possible, including these carved wooden doors and faux balconies. Some rooms have ocean views, and others have views of the lush groves and courtyards. The vibe is most certainly old Hawaii.

There are two pools, one of which is a family pool with waterslides, shared with the Sheraton next door. Aha Aina, Waikiki’s only oceanfront luau, is located here. And there are multiple fabulous dining options on site. If you go, I highly recommend the signature Royal Hawaiian Pink Palace Pancakes from Surf Lanai. Perfection!

In my mind, The Royal Hawaiian is perfect for couples and honeymooners, beach goers, and history lovers. It’s more than a luxurious stay. It’s about embracing the spirit of aloha.
